William R. Imel Sr.

William R. Imel Sr., 96, of Plainfield, passed away December 5, 2011. He was born October 31, 1915 to the late William H. and Ethel M. (Chandler) Imel in Indianpolis, IN. He worked for the New York Central RR as a brakeman and conductor. Later he was General Chairman for United Transportation Union for 12 years retiring in 1978. He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Plainfield Masonic Lodge #653, the Scottish Rite and the Lions Club. He is survived by two sons, William R. (Shirley) Imel Jr. and Dennis (Freddi) Imel; daughter, Sandy Brown; 12 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two wives, Annabel (Clark) Imel, and Jeanette (Orme) Imel, a son, Robert Earl Imel, and a brother, Richard Imel. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Wednesday, December 7, 2011 in the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield, where friends may call on Tuesday, December 6, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. Entombment, Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield.
