Ethel Marie Foggatt

Ethel Marie Foggatt, Plainfield, died peacefully enveloped in God's loving arms March 9, 2008 at Franklin United Methodist Community where she had received the greatest of care for the last 8 years. She had celebrated her 100th birthday on July 16, 2007 with her family. She was born to Albert and Wilhelmina Smithers on July 16, 1907 in Fond du Lac, WI. She was preceded by her parents, her sister Virginia Steiner and her loving husband of 56 years, Archie Albert Foggatt. Mrs. Foggatt is survived by her sons, David (Heidi) of Phoenix, AZ, and Charles (Sandy) of Danville; a sister, Mildred Pinkerton, 98, of Waupaca, WI; grandchildren, Stephen Foggatt, Phoenix, AZ, Pamela Jones (John) of Avon, and Carsten Foggatt, Phoenix, AZ; and great grandchildren, Miss Tyler Foggatt, Phoenix, AZ, Justin, Evan and Miss Kayla Jones all of Avon. Mrs. Foggatt did classroom teaching (one room schoolhouse, grades 1-12) in Fond du Lac and Oshkosh, WI in the 1920's. She attended the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, and Indiana University where she received a B.S. in Education degree specializing in Speech and Hearing at the age of 55. She was a Speech and Hearing Therapist in Indianapolis Public Schools and Marion County. Mr. & Mrs. Foggatt operated the Maple Hill Studio (photography) in Plainfield in the 1950's and 60's. She belonged to the Plainfield Chapter of Eastern Star as a past Matron and was a member of the Plainfield Womans Club. She was a past member of the Plainfield Christian Church and longtime member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Plainfield. More recently she attended the St. Augustine Episcopal Church in Danville. Her sons and their families have been truly blessed with her long life and her Christian influence in their lives. There will be no visitation. A private funeral service will be attended by her family at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Plainfield, conducted by Steve White of the Plainfield Christian Church.
