Barbara Furman, 87, of Plainfield, passed away July 13, 2022. She was born November 1, 1934 to the late William and Weyburn (Dooley) Trent in Avon, IN. She worked as a secretary for Indiana Youth Center and Belcan Technical Services. She was a member of Plainfield Christian Church and past member of Tri Kappa Sorority. Barbara attended all of her children’s events including choir, dance, theater, school functions and sporting events. When one of her boys would come up to bat she would scream “that’s my boy!”. She was proud of all of her children. As an ice cream lover, she had one rule on vacation…ice cream every day, for “there’s always room for ice cream because it just melts and fills in the cracks”. She was Mrs. Hospitality, hosting friends and missionaries, and hosting the entire church by the lake at their farm, and in the winter she would serve hot chocolate to all the youth groups who came sledding down their hill. She loved to bake, making her famous fudge or rocky road bars and delicious pies. People will remember her Furman free pie day. Her love of music was showcased by playing the piano, especially during Christmas. She had a song for everything. She was a true “tenor” and would change octaves and sing soprano. She also played in the church handbell choir. Barbara was devoted to her church, shopping for the County home residents, chairing bereavement committees, working during VBS, and going on mission trips to Ukraine, Haiti and to the House of Edelweiss in Austria She was called President by her bridge friends since she organized all phone calls, events, birthday gatherings. She kept the group together for over 50 years. She was known as the “Scholar among the Trents". Although she didn’t have the opportunity to attend college, she attended Girls State in high school and was a successful executive secretary. Barbara is survived by her husband, William E. Furman; children, Greg (Maren Urness) Carr, Randy (Carol) Carr, Danny (Theresa) Carr, and Donna (LeRoy) Lenarz; step-son, Jeff (Lesa) Furman; brothers, Ronald (Jean) and Bruce (Virginia) Trent; 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Chris Carr, and four brothers, Kenneth, Wendell, Bernard and Noble Trent. Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at the Plainfield Christian Church, 800 Dan Jones Road, where friends may call on Wednesday from 10:00 am until service time at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield. Memorial contributions may be made to the church’s mission fund. Arrangements by Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield. www.hamptongentry.com
