Barbara Lou Smith

Barbara L. (Beckman) Smith, of Plainfield, Indiana, passed away on November 17, 2018, she was 80 years old. She was born in Ft Wayne, Indiana, December 13, 1937 to Leo and Dorothy Beckman. Barb was the fourth of seven children. She graduated from Central Catholic High School, Ft Wayne, in 1956. She married her high school sweetheart, Max (Gene) Smith in 1957. They moved to Terre Haute, Indiana, where he was enrolled at Indiana State Teachers College and Barb worked as a secretary at Terre Haute Advertising Company. In 1958, the couple moved to Plainfield, Indiana, where Barb worked as an elementary school cafeteria manager and a dental assistant/office manager. She worked as a secretary at the Indiana Youth Center for 15 years, retiring in 1996.
 
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Max, two sons, Michael Smith and David (Yvonne) Smith, and one daughter, Pamela Smith Mosser (Dale Weitzel), six grandchildren, Benjamin (Samantha) Smith, Andrea (Jeremy) Quack, Brent Mosser (Sydney Boles), Eric (Amanda) Haze, Roger (Amy) Byassee, and Brittany Weitzel, twelve great-grandchildren, Noah, Ellie, and Jacob Smith, Kendal Quack, Walker Mosser, Marian, Levi, Abigail and Benjamin Haze, and Blayke McDonald, Rowyn and Raymond Tyree.
 
Barbara was a wonderful person and absolutely loved by all who knew her. She will be greatly and sadly missed.
 
Services will be held at St Susanna Catholic Church, 1210 E Main St, Plainfield, IN, visitation from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 with a Catholic Mass to follow at 2:00 pm. Burial following the mass at Maple Hill cemetery Plainfield.
