Bernard R. Loechel

Bernard R. Loechel, 84, of Plainfield, passed away June 12, 2017.  He was born June 20, 1932 to the late Bernard and Beatrice (Chamberlin) Loechel in Cincinnati, OH.  He was a US Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War.  He was a locomotive engineer for Conrail for 45 years retiring in 1995.  He was the past Marine Corps Commandant 5 years for the State of Indiana.  He also was the recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash and was a Kentucky Colonel.  Bernard is survived by his wife, Erma D. (Watkins) Loechel;  a son, Kevin R. (Nora) Loechel; two daughters, Debora R. Moretti and Bernadean (Forest) Kelly; 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Andrew Moretti and a brother, Kenneth Loechel.  Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, June 15, 2017 in the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield.  Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Friday, June 16 in the funeral home.  Entombment with military honors will be held at Lincoln Memory Gardens, Whitestown.
