Brenda Carol Carter, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and dedicated educator, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026 at the age of 77. Born on March 19, 1949, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Brenda lived a life defined by her faith, family, and unwavering commitment to shaping young minds.
A proud 1967 graduate of Plainfield High School, Brenda’s radiant personality was evident early on as a cheerleader for the Quakers. She continued her education at Purdue University, where she studied Elementary Education and met the love of her life, Kenny Carter. The two shared a beautiful marriage spanning 49 years, built on a foundation of mutual support and shared values.
Brenda’s professional legacy is felt deeply within the Plainfield Community School Corporation, where she served as a teacher for 32 years. Throughout her career, she taught 1st, 4th, and 5th grades across multiple elementary schools, leaving a lasting impact on generations of students before her retirement in 2012.
A lifelong member of the Plainfield Christian Church, Brenda’s relationship with Jesus Christ was the priority of her life. Her faith guided her involvement in the church community and her interactions with everyone she met.
Brenda cherished her role as a mother and grandmother. She was the biggest cheerleader for her family, rarely missing an opportunity to support her children and grandchildren in their many activities. Whether she was reading stories and playing games with her grandchildren, or cheering on her Purdue Boilermakers, her presence brought warmth and joy to every gathering.
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, Wendell and Marcia Trent, and her step-mother, Joyce Trent.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Kenny Carter; her children, Devin Carter (Abigail), Megan Stevenson (Chris), and Merrin Carter (Eric); and her six cherished grandchildren: Blair, Brooke, Hayden, Dane, Randin, and Grey. Her memory will also be treasured by her brothers, Keith Trent (Mary) and Larry Trent, along with a community of friends and former students who will miss her dearly.
Visitation will be on Thursday, April 30, 2026 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Plainfield Christian Church (800 Dan Jones Road, Plainfield, IN 46168). Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026 at 11:00 am in the church. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery.
