Calvin E. Carpenter

June 29, 1949 — March 21, 2021

Calvin E. Carpenter, 71, of Monrovia, passed away March 21, 2021.  He was born June 29, 1949 to the late Waldo and Mary (Lloyd) Carpenter in Evansville, IN.  He was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a 1967 graduate of Plainfield High School.   Calvin worked for Eli Lilly & Company for 31 years starting out in the cafeteria and retired in 1998 as an Engineering Technician.  He also was employed as a driver for I-V Coaches and Miller Transportation.  He also drove semi-tractor trailers for Knight Trucking.  His other activities included being an umpire and referee for softball and volleyball for IHSAA.   Calvin and Kay were part of a R.V. Ministry for SOWERs (Servants On Wheels Ever Ready).  Some of his pastimes were traveling, camping and going to Disney with family and friends.  He also loved to hang out by the pool and hot tub, having pool parties, cruising and renting a trike.  He looked forward to wintering in Florida.  Above all and more than anything else, family and friends always came first.  He was preceded in death by his brothers, Lloyd and Robert Carpenter.  Calvin is survived by his wife, Kay (Kathryn) E. (Cord) Carpenter;  two sons, Jason L. (Heather), and Jake M. Carpenter; and two grandchildren, Kaylee Carpenter and Zach Carpenter.  A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at St. Susanna Catholic Church, Plainfield.  Visitation will also be at the church on Thursday, from 10:00 am until service time at 1:00 pm.  Inurnment, with military honors, will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield.   Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent DePaul at app.etapestry.com, or charity of your choice.  Arrangements by Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield.   Face masks are required and social distancing will be observed.
