Carol Jean Mayo, age 83, of Clayton, passed away in the early morning hours of October 2, 2026. She was born on November 15, 1942 in Bloomington, Indiana to the late Maurice "Jiggs" Johnson and Mildred (Emmons) Cox. Jean worked as a school bus driver for Wayne Township for many years before retiring. She was a member of the Red Hat Society alongside being one of the first softball coaches for the Plainfield Optimist League. In her spare time she loved to go bowling, horseback riding and camping. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Mayo; daughter, Kelly Franklin. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2026 at Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home beginning at 1:00 p.m., where visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until time of services. Burial will follow to Clayton Cemetery. Survivors include her son, Charles Mayo; daughters, Miley (Edward) Price, Shelley (John) Schrader, Kimberly Mayo; brother, Joe Johnson; sisters, Judith West, Janice Bogus, Jane Walker and Jenny Green; son-in-law, Rob Franklin; 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
