Charles E. Mayo. age 87, passed away in the evening of September 17, 2026. He was born on April 1, 1939 in Morgan County, Indiana to the late James Mayo and Mattie Cordray. Charles honorably served in the United States Air Force from 1957 to 1961. He later worked as a semi-truck driver throughout his adult life, later retiring from Teamster's Trucking. He was a member of the Plainfield Masonic Lodge # 653. After retirement, Charles still had his CB radio and loved messing with passing truck drivers who were within range. He also loved taking care of his yard, mowing, and always made a cup of coffee from his garage, then would sit on his front porch watching the birds. He is preceded in death by a daughter, Kelly Franklin; brothers, Wayne, James and Bernard Mayo; sisters, Sally Stranger, Sherry Darling and Mary Jane Mayo. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home beginning at 1:00 p.m., where visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will follow with military honors to Clayton Cemetery. Survivors include his loving wife, Jean Mayo; daughters, Miley (Edward) Price, Shelley (John) Schrader, Kimberly Mayo; son, Charles Mayo; brothers, Morris and Randy Mayo; sisters, Lois Eller, Becky Hoover and Nancy Mayo; son-in-law, Rob Franklin; 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
