Charles B. Smith, age 99, peacefully passed from this life on June 26, 2026. He was born in Coal City, Indiana on January 3, 1927 to the late George B. Smith and Alma (Brothers) Smith. Charles honorably served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He married Mary Jo Smith and were happily married for 73 years until she passed back in 2017. Charles worked as a truck driver for various companies for 38 years, later working for Ace Hardware for another 28 years. He loved to go golfing, boating, camping and using his motor home for numerous road trips. A way to avoid bitter Indiana weather, he spent 22 winters in Florida. Charles was a First Baptist Church of Plainfield member, along with being a member of the Lynhurst Masonic Lodge # 723, Lynhurst Eastern Star # 505 and the Mooresville American Legion. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Jo Smith; daughter, Cynthia Smith; brother, Howard Smith; sisters, Helen Smith and Carolyn Russell. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at First Baptist Church of Plainfield (1012 Stafford Road, Plainfield, IN 46168) beginning at 1:00 pm, where friends and family may visit from 11:00 am until time of services. Burial will follow to Maple Hill Cemetery with military honors. Survivors include his wife, Lennes Smith;  sons, Terry (Jodi) Smith and Rusty (Jan) Smith; daughter, Heather (Shannon) Smith; 5 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
