Doris Akers

Doris V. Akers, 94, of Plainfield, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026.  She was born on April 30, 1931 in Newton, MS to the late Glover Pierce and Lucille Mock.  Doris was in home nursing for 20 years and with Ballkamp for 5 years before retiring.  She enjoyed dancing, gardening and cooking in her free time.  Doris loved spending time with her family.  She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Samuels; second husband, Jack Akers; daughter, Becky Newlin; brother, Homer Pierce; sisters, Peggy Weatherly and Shirley Odom.  Funeral services will be on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at 12:00 pm in Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home where friends may visit from 11:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 pm.  Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery.  Survivors include her daughters, Joyce Settles and Sheila Ruff; 3 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 9 great great grandchildren.
