Doris E. Hechinger

January 4, 1940 — August 6, 2021

Doris Erna (Wagner) Hechinger, 81, of Marthinsville, passed away August 6. 2021 after a long battle with Parkinson's and dementia. She was born January 4, 1940 in Obercunnersdorf, Germany. At age 20, she fled communist East Germany via West Berlin, married Lt. Hechinger in Wurzburg, Germany in 1964, and became a US citizen in 1989. She worked as a sales associate at JC Penney in Greenwood for 10 years retiring in 2008. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading and traveling, especially in her RV to Alaska. Doris is survived by Gerald (Jerry) Hechinger (husband), Carmen (Roland) Naak (Daughter), Harold (Barbara) Hechinger (son), Christina (Tim) Smith (Daughter), and Stefanie (Kipp) Cain (Daughter); Ingrid Merder (Sister), Frank Wagner (Brother), Winfred Konrad (Brother), 3 granddaughters, Samantha, Justine and Nicole; and Sandro, Enrico (grandson) two (great-granddaughters), Lara and Kassandra, and a great-grandson (Luca) in Germany. Memorial services will be at 4:00 pm on Sunday, August 15, 2021 in the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield, where friends may call on Sunday from 2:00 pm until service time at 4:00 pm. Contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation.
