Evelyn M. Benning

Evelyn M. Benning, age 83, of Avon, passed away on May 18, 2026. She was born on November 20, 1942 in Tipton, Indiana to the late Orville Schulenburg and Esther (Beck) Schulenburg. Evelyn received her Bachelor's degree from Concordia River Forest then a Master's degree from Ball State University. She was a teacher at Emmaus Lutheran School and St. John Lutheran School, additionally was involved with the formation of Lutheran High School of Indianapolis. Later on, Evelyn went on to work as an administrative assistant / learning reinforcement teacher. Her memberships included: Living Christ Lutheran Church in Plainfield and Lutheran Women's Missionary League. Evelyn enjoyed quilting, sewing, reading, creating the bulletins for the church, as well as playing the pinochle and the organ. She was very proud of her documentary work for the 50th anniversary of the Lutheran High school of Indianapolis. She is preceded in death by her brothers, Kenneth Schulenburg, Edgar Schulenburg and Norman Schulenburg; grandson, Zac Clegg. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026 at Living Christ Lutheran Church (726 Moon Road, Plainfield, IN 46168) beginning at 12:00 noon, where family and friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until time of services. Evelyn is survived by her loving husband, Carl Benning; her children, Lenice Bailey, Michelle (Larry) Owens, Dale Benning, Tim (Christy) Benning; brother, Carl Schulenburg; grandchildren, Corina Bailey, Brittany (Tyler) Berry, Austin (Jessica) Owens, Matthew Benning, Jacob Benning and Garrison (Luba) Benning; several great grandchildren.
