Gordon E. Knauer, 72, of Plainfield, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loving family members, on May 17, 2025. He was born on May 27, 1952, in Greencastle, IN to the late Noble and Florence Knauer.

A proud graduate of Butler University, Gordon earned his Master's degree in Business and carried a lifelong passion for learning and innovation. He worked as a Senior Manufacturing Engineer for Allison Transmission, where he was known for his dedication, problem-solving skills, and mentorship. 

Outside of his professional life, Gordon found joy in simple pleasures and meaningful hobbies. He was an avid pool player who relished the strategy and camaraderie of the game. He also had a keen interest in coin collecting and dealing, developing a deep knowledge and appreciation for numismatics over the years.

Above all, Gordon cherished his family. He loved spending quality time with his grandchildren and was a constant presence in their lives—offering guidance, humor, and unconditional love. His family will always remember him as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose wisdom and warmth made every gathering brighter.

He was a member of the Plainfield Bible Church, where his faith was a source of strength and guidance throughout his life. Gordon was also a proud member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, Chapter Zeta Xi, where he formed lifelong friendships and upheld the values of brotherhood and leadership.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, where friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery.

Gordon is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Eleanor Knauer; his daughter, Emily (Matt) Purdy; his brother, Warren Knauer; sister, Lorna (Randy) Rubeck; and his cherished grandchildren, Berkeley, Mia, and Ainsley Todisco, and Kohen and Malakai Purdy. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will miss his steady presence and kind heart.

He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, unwavering integrity, and the legacy of love he leaves behind
