James W. Crowder

James Willard Crowder, 84, of Clayton, IN passed peacefully on March 7, 2024.  He was born on November 19, 1939, in Sumner County, Tennessee to the late John Mack and Hazel Dean Crowder.  Jim attended Gallatin High School, in Gallatin Tennessee before moving to Indianapolis where he worked for Standard Supermarket and Service Products.  He began work at Indianapolis Power & Light Company in 1961 and served in the Line Department until his retirement in 2000.  While at IPL, Jim participated in Young Men’s Forum, Conservation Club, Transmission & Delivery Work Council, and the softball and bowling teams. He also served as a Whiteriver Township Jaycee.  Jim belonged to Hazelwood Christian Church where he was a respected member of the HCC leadership team, serving many years as both a Deacon and Elder. Spending time with family, playing golf and watching sports were among his favorite pastimes in retirement.  Jim is survived by his sister, Betty Jo Hodges, daughter, Jamie Richard (Danny), stepdaughter, Rebecca Longenberger (Tom), stepdaughter, Kim Catlett, stepson Greg Taylor (Cindy), grandson Jeremy Richard (Rachel), great grandson Gavin Richard and great granddaughter Hadleigh Richard.  Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife of 33 years, Rosemary Crowder, brother, Raymond Crowder (Charlene), sister, Helen Shands and stepdaughter, Deborah Miller.  Visitation will be Monday, March 25, 2024 in Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 in the funeral home with visitation from 12:00pm until the time of service at 1:00pm.  The burial service will follow in Clayton Cemetery. Steve Ranson will be officiating.
