James L. "Jimmy" Groninger

October 10, 1959 — January 20, 2022

James L. "Jimmy" Groninger, 62, of Plainfield, passed away on January 20, 2022.  He was born in Indianapolis on October 10, 1959 to Donald and Loretta Groninger. Jimmy graduated from Plainfield High School in 1978. After high school, he worked full time at Groninger Excavating with his father, Don. He spent the rest of his working life excavating, landscaping, paving, and doing other very helpful jobs. Jimmy would do anything for his kids, at any moment and he loved them with all his heart. He was an amazing son, brother, dad and loved his family and friends deeply. Jimmy was best known for putting a smile on your face any time you were with him. Ask anyone who knew him and they’ll always have a fun story to share about him. His favorite hobbies included going to Colts and Pacers games and attending races at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He loved nothing more than spending a fun day at the track with family and friends. Great memories of Jimmy include taking a cooler ride down the top of the grandstands at the track, hopping on the blue motorcycle at every single Colts game and doing anything that gives you a good laugh. He lived freely, loved deeply and did everything with enthusiasm and a contagious smile. Jimmy was preceded in death by his father, Don Groninger.  Visitation will be Thursday, January 27, 2022 from 2:00 to 7:00 pm in the Plainfield Christian Church (800 Dan Jones Road, Plainfield, IN 46168).  Funeral services will be Friday, January 28, 2022 at 10:00 am in the church.  Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery.  Survivors include his children, Garrett (Shelby) Groninger, Gabi and Gracyn Groninger; mother, Loretta Groninger; brother, Danny (Laura) Groninger; sisters, Lisa (Bobby) Payne and Amber (Jason) Mead; nephews, Gavin and Gaston Groninger, Baylor Payne and Payton Mead; niece, Jayci Mead.  Arrangements by Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to a Memorial fund for Jimmy's children at https://gofund.me/04bfa175.
