Jeffrey R. Richardson

March 14, 1953 — April 12, 2026

Avon

Jeffrey R. Richardson, 73, of Avon, Indiana, passed away suddenly on April 12, 2026. He was born on March 14, 1953, in Lower Burrell, Pennsylvania to Thomas and Moria Richardson, who preceded him in death.

Jeff was a devoted husband to his “Honey” Kathy for 44 years. She was his anchor and love. Together they found joy in life’s simple pleasures. Whether it was quietly sitting together in the driveway watching the world go by, or doing the grocery shopping, their love and companionship were the foundation of everything he held dear.

He was a proud and loving father to his daughter, Kellie Richardson Latorre (43). Jeff treasured their daily phone calls each morning and never missed a chance to hear her say, “Hi, Daddy.”

He also shared a special bond with his son-in-law, Matthew Latorre (42), and talking about the Pittsburgh Penguins hockey team and lawn care.

Jeff’s greatest joy came from being a grandfather, known as “Didi” to his grandson Nathan Latorre (11).He affectionately called Nathan, “his little buddy.” From building Legos, school events, and Bible lesson chats, to having deep meaningful time together where the questions of life were asked and answered, these were the quality moments.

Nathan says Didi is up in Heaven now doing his favorite thing, “cutting grass “with his dad!

He was a faithful member of Our Shepherd Lutheran Church and School in Avon, Indiana. He served as school board president and found great fulfillment in supporting students and watching them grow academically and in their faith. He ushered and took on whatever tasks needed to be done. Reading to the children regularly and developing a course on genealogy for the 8th graders was a passion. He was fondly called “Mr. Jeff” by all the students. He was well loved and a grandfather figure- full of kindness and wisdom.

Jeff had a commitment to learning himself, and furthered his studies of genealogy at Boston University, and on-line courses. He was an active member of the National Genealogical Society. He was very excited to document relatives going back to 1720 in Scotland, and others from the Mayflower, fighting with George Washington, and supervising on the railroad for the north during the Civil War.

He started as a secondary English teacher, then left and became employed by the United States Postal Service. In his 38 years he held various positions along the way and took business, computer, negotiation, logistics and management courses. After living and working in the Pittsburgh area, he moved the family to Indiana to manage a learning center for transportation and logistics on a national level. Seeing the USA was on his bucket list, and he did so as a Network Planning and Logistics Specialist. He traveled from east to west and north to south. Three years in Washington DC were spent creating what we now know as “Priority Mail.” It was a significant accomplishment. But the best fun was going to Disney University in Orlando to learn about the structure of their corporate business. He retired in the position of Transportation & Networks Manager for the state of Indiana. Jeff received numerous Postal awards and recognition for his devotion and outstanding achievements.

Jeff enjoyed playing golf in his younger days and had a 3 handicap. Even played the Oakmont course. Going to the Highland Games, Broadway shows, the Indiana State Fair, finding good places to eat, were things he liked to do. Of course, there’s the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins!

He was well-liked and respected. Jeff was helpful, generous, patient, and willing to listen and learn. He focused and looked for the positive in people. This was undergirded by a strong faith that he took seriously and practiced. He had a servant’s heart to the very end as an organ donor.

Jeff is preceded in death by his older brother Tom Richardson. Survived by his younger brother Jack (Marcia) Richardson and nieces Jackie Prather and family; Lauren Dubnicay and family; Megan McGivren and family; sister-in-law Shari Richardson and niece/nephew Laura Bright and family; Tom J. Richardson. Sister-in-law Janis Jarecki Liu and niece/nephew Chrissy Liu and Mark Liu;Sister-in-law Debbie Jarecki Bybee and nephews Jared Bybee and Aaron Bybee.
