Jo Ann Thompson, of Plainfield, IN, passed away at home surrounded by loving family members on December 27th, 2022, at the age of 90. She was born to parents James H. and Ruth Ladd Pierson on November 8th, 1932, in the same home that she passed in. Jo Ann graduated from Decatur Central High School in 1950.  Jo Ann was a Brownie troop leader and Sunday School teacher, as well as a Plainfield Library clerk and homemaker. She was an avid gardener and participated in the Plainfield Garden Club. She had a talent for singing and directed her Plainfield Friends Meeting church choir for several years. As a world traveler, she went on many exciting trips that she loved to tell stories about. Jo Ann was the matriarch of her family and always enjoyed holiday and birthday celebrations.  Jo Ann is survived by children Kristi Rubin, Steve Thompson, Cathie Brown, grandchildren Ben Brown Rachel (Dylan) Zimmerman, Jacob Brown, Jared Brown, Emily (Ryan) Myers, great-grandchildren Brayden and Gavin Brown. She is also survived by sister Nancy (Brent) Bill, brother Charles Ladd (Fran) Pierson, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jo Ann is preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert J. Thompson, brothers John W. Pierson and James M. Pierson, son-in-law Jeff Rubin, and dear friend John C. “Jack” Miller. Graveside services will be Friday, January 6th in the chapel at Maple Hill Cemetery in Plainfield at 11:30am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Salvation Army (https://www.salvationarmyusa.org/usn/ways-to-give/) or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (https://www.stjude.org/).
