Kathryn Ellen Aubruner of Plainfield, IN, died on January 25, 2022. Born Kathryn Aubruner on November 15, 1965 in Hammond Indiana to loving parents Patricia Ahern Aubruner and William George Aubruner, Jr., Kathy was the youngest of three girls and grew up in Hammond, Indiana. After graduating from Hammond High School, she followed in her sister’s footsteps by attending Purdue University and met her future husband, Joe Garmon there. Kathy studied public relations and business writing and was selected for Disney leadership programs which led to her “Mousters” and “Ducktorette.” She also had an internship at Holiday World (Santa Claus, Indiana) which sparked her love of amusement and theme parks. After graduation and for the next almost 30 years, Kathy lived in Florida and served several roles at The Magic Kingdom, The Disney Store, Home Shopping Network, Regions Bank, and ultimately her dream job at Give Kids the World Village. This is a nonprofit organization that fulfills the wishes of critically ill children and their families from around the world to visit Disney World and other area attractions. Here, she was responsible for working with sponsors and area theme parks to ensure the wishes could be granted and to constantly improve the resort where the families stayed. Kathy adored seeing smiles on each and every child that visited there. Kathy loved spending her time at Disney, museums, the beautiful beaches in St. Pete, and regular travels to see her family in Indiana which included regular excursions to her favorite city, Chicago. She was a huge sports enthusiast and an immense Purdue fan. She was happiest spending time with her family, and thoroughly spoiled her niece, Amy, and nephews, Matt and Bill. She and Joe moved to Plainfield, Indiana, in 2018 to be closer to her family. She and Joe also adopted their sweet Shih Tzu, Teddy, in 2018. Kathy is survived by her husband, Joseph Garmon; her mother, Patricia Aubruner; sister Ann and husband Scott Swiontek; her brother-in-law, Bruce Barger, her niece, Amy; nephew Matt and his wife Jess; nephew Bill; her father-in-law Joseph; and sister-in-law Sandra. We are already missing her beautiful smile, and visiting Disney will never be the same without her. We’re certain our dad, sister and the entire family were there to meet her in heaven with many hugs. We’re relieved that she will no longer have to suffer. Kathy had many incredible healthcare providers at St Paul Hermitage and across the Indianapolis area that we would like to thank for caring for her with love and dignity during her extended illness. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Give Kids the World Village in her name by going to the link- GKTW. A Funeral Mass will be held at 3:00 pm on Monday, January 31, 2022 at the St. Susanna Catholic Church, 1210 E.
