Marilyn Jo Chastain

Marilyn Jo Chastain, age 72, formerly of Plainfield, departed this life on February 16, 2026. She was born on December 4, 1953 in Huntingburg, Indiana to the late Robert Dearing and Rosaline Dearing. Marilyn received her Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana State University in 1979 and then her Master's degree in school counseling from Indiana State University in 1981. Most of her career, she was involved in the Indianapolis Public School system, as a music teacher for 5 years, then as a guidance counselor for 27 years. Later on she was a part time pharmacy technician for Marsh Supermarkets for over 10 years. Marilyn was raised in the United Methodist Church and was most recently a member of Grace Church in Cape Coral, Florida. She was active in her Christian faith throughout her life, even getting baptized in the Jordan River with her sister in 2019. Her hobbies included walks on the beach on Sanibel Island, visiting Disney World with her family, attending sporting events and Christian music concerts. She also enjoyed playing games, working puzzles and crafting. Marilyn lived a life dedicated to compassion and service to others. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 29 years, Jerry Chastain. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home beginning at 12:00 noon, where family and friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until time of services. Inurnment will follow to Maple Hill Cemetery. Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Flanagan; son, Jonathan (Liz) Chastain; sister, Sandra Parker Norris; Aunt, Ruth Rummel; nephew, Cameron (Jessica) Parker; grandnephew, Jackson Parker; grandniece, Maddie Parker; companion, Luis Barrera.
