Michael R. Bassett

February 26, 1963 — January 1, 2026

Danville

Micheal Ray Bassett, 62, of Danville, Indiana died peacefully at home in front of his roaring fireplace surrounded by his wife, son and daughter. Michael was born on February 26, 1963 in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. He attended kindergarten through his sophomore year in Noblesville, Indiana and graduated from Danville High School in 1981. He joined the Army in 1983 and served 2 years in the National Guard.

He worked at Kadel Engineering, U.S. Airlines in Indianapolis, San Francisco and Chicago then Siemer Distributors before settling into 30 years with Scott Pet until 2020. He took the company from a small manufacturing company to a respected major supplier in the pet industry. He moved the company from Avon to Rockville in 1995. Mike was very involved in the Parke County community and was a generous contributor to multiple organizations, including 4-H, local fire and police departments. He was a member of the Elks Lodge # 247 and served as a volunteer Sheriff Deputy for several years all while running a multi-million dollar company and coaching Little League.

Mike was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer, NASCAR enthusiast and huge music buff. He loved nothing more than a live concert. He cared deeply for his friends and family but had a special place in his heart for his many dogs over the years, his Boer goats and Angus cows. He may have only been on this planet for 62 years, but he made it count and he will be remembered and missed.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Kathleen Scott Bassett; daughter, Betsy (Bassett) Taylor; son, Jake Bassett; sister, Julia (Mark) Riffey; brothers, Don (Sabrina) Bassett and Jon (Erin) Bassett; 2 grandsons, 2 granddaughters, 6 nieces and 7 nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Bettie Bassett and his beloved grandmother, Vivian Cundiff.
