Nicholas S. "Sam" Moreland

Nicholas S. "Sam" Moreland, 92, of Plainfield, passed away May 20, 2023.  He was born February 13, 1931 to the late Walter and Blanche (Hannefey) Moreland in Laurel, IN.  He was a veteran of the US Navy.  He retired as an assistant supervisor at Allison's Div. of General Motors in 1985 after 35 years of service.  He was a member of the Mooresville Masonic Lodge #70 and the OES #260.  Sam is survived by two sons, James "Mike" (Grace) Moreland and Darl S. (Maryann) Moreland; a daughter, Deborah G. Compton; two brothers, Robert (Doyne) Moreland and Richard Moreland; a step-brother, Hershel Hannefey; a grandson, Don Bastin; 5 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve Moreland and two grandchildren, Sheila Bastin and Adrianne Biorkman.  A private inurnment will take place at Washington Park North Cemetery, Indianapolis.  Arrangements by Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield.
