Richard J. Chittester, age 79, of Plainfield, passed away in the early morning hours on June 24, 2026. He was born in Kane, Pennsylvania on September 2, 1946 to the late Richard M. Chittester and Frances (Udavitch) Chittester. Dick honorably served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam. Once Dick was honorably discharged from the Army, he drove a truck for his father's business, later driving for various trucking companies before retiring from Yellow Freight in December of 2010. He was also a member of the Greencastle American Legion and the Mooresville VFW. Dick was a long time member of St. Susanna Catholic Church. His hobbies included riding horses, hunting, fishing and especially spending quality time with his family. Dick was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Chittester; brother, Edward Chittester; sister, Nancy Brown; grandson, Kaden Cassidy. Visitation will be held at St. Susanna Catholic Church in Plainfield, IN on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will immediately follow at 12:00 pm. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Indianapolis with military honors. Survivors include his loving wife of the past 42 years, Donna Chittester; son, Jeffery Chittester; step sons, Kevin Cassidy and Keith Cassidy; step daughter, Kathleen (Jay) Brown; brothers, Walter (Leslie) Chittester and James Chittester; sisters, Donna Haight and Rebecca (Larry) McNeill; 7 grandchildren, Kyle Cassidy, Adam Brown, Ashley (Brown) Schmid, Kelsie (Cassidy) Cook, Cameron Cassidy, Conner Cassidy, 9 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
