Rita Z. Shearer

Rita Z. Shearer, age 72, of Clayton, passed away on December 27, 2025. She was born on September 9, 1953, in Terre Haute, Indiana, to the late Joseph Zumar and Margot (Karrer) Zumar. Rita was a longtime member of Hazelwood Christian Church. She enjoyed spending quality time with her family, hobby shopping with friends, raising farm animals, gardening, and canning vegetables. Above all, Rita cherished the time she shared with her family and friends throughout the years.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026, at Hazelwood Christian Church (9947 S. County Road 0, Clayton, Indiana 46118), beginning at 1:00 p.m. Family and friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Clayton Cemetery.

Survivors include her loving husband, John Shearer; son, Nick (Melissa) Shotwell; daughter, Stephanie (Jeremy) Cooper; brother, Joseph “Butch” Zumar; sister, Fran (Doug) Wright; stepchildren, Carlyle Shearer, Johnna Kosnoff, and Tony Shearer; and her step-son, Steve Shearer, who preceded her in death; four grandchildren, Savannah Shotwell, Luke Shotwell, Tucker Cooper, and Ryder Cooper; along with several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
