Rita Z. Shearer

Rita Z. Shearer, age 72, of Clayton, passed away on December 27, 2025. She was born on September 9, 1953 in Terre Haute, Indiana to the late Joseph Zumar and Margot (Carrer) Zumar. Rita was a long time member of the Hazelwood Christian Church. She loved to go hobby shopping with her friends, raising farm animals, gardening and canning various foods items. Rita loved spending quality time with her family and friends throughout the years. She is preceded in death by her step-son, Steve Shearer. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026 at Hazelwood Christian Church ( 9947 S. County Road 0, Clayton, Indiana 46118) starting at 1:00 p.m., where family and friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. until time of services. Burial will follow to Clayton Cemetery. Survivors include her loving husband, John Shearer; son, Nick ( Melissa) Shotwell; daughter, Stephanie (Jeremy) Cooper; brother, Joseph "Butch" Zumar; sister, Fran (Doug) Wright; step-children, Carlyle Shearer, Johna Kosnoff and Tony Shearer; 4 grandchildren, Savannah Shotwell, Luke Shotwell, Tucker Cooper and Ryder Cooper; several step grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
