Rodrick L. Mahan

Rodrick L. Mahan, 74, of Plainfield, passed away August 17, 2022.  He was born October 4, 1947 to the late James and Elizabeth (Latimer) Mahan in Guntersville, AL.  He was a 1966 graduate of Cascade High School.  He was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War, where he was stationed in Hawaii and Thailand.  He was awarded a Mortar Metal during his training.  He worked for Rhoades Beverage as a truck driver and retired from there after 30 years of service. During that time he worked a second job as a guard for the Plainfield Youth Center (now the prison) for  years.  His most recent employment was with Estes Express Line as a Linehaul Driver for 20 years.  He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW.   Rod enjoyed spending time with his family. The holiday gatherings with his wife Glenda's home cooking were some of his favorite times.   He was a lifetime member of the Eagles and VFW. He was a member of the American Legion  where he indulged in a few drinks and chatted with some of his best friends.  Rod never passed up an opportunity to test his luck with the lottery or play the pull tabs with his grandson Jamison and seemed to win more than his fair share.  Rod loved to play golf with his brother Arni,  son Shawn and friend Joe.  He was a fan of auto racing and attended several of the "Night Before The 500" races at IRP with his family and friends.  Rod was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Bellville and had just received his 50-year pin.  Rod is survived by his wife, Glenda L. (Hammer) Mahan; a son, Shawn B. (Amber) Travis; two daughters, Melissa K. (Bryan) Sheets and Crystal (Eric) Alberts; two brothers, Robert E. and Arnie (Deborah) Mahan; a sister, Mary Tallar; a sister-in-law, Eunice Mahan; 7 grandchildren, Gunnar (Sierra) Martin, Jamison Brewer, Shae Lynn (Mike Nuckols) Brewer, Wiley Travis, Braydin Crawley, Natalie Sheets, and Mason Sheets; and two great grandchildren, Caleb Martin and Haisley Nuckols.  He was preceded in death by a brother, David Mahan and a sister-in-law, Janice Mahan.  Visitation will be from 2:00 to 6:00 pm on Sunday, August 28, 2022 in the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield.  Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Monday, August 29 also in the funeral home.  Burial, with military honors, will be in North Branch Cemetery, Mooresville.
