Ronald Gilbert

October 11, 1950 — September 30, 2025

Plainfield

Ronald M. Gilbert, 74, passed away on Tuesday morning, September 30, 2025, in Plainfield, Indiana. He was a lifelong Hoosier, born on October 11, 1950, to the late Harry E. Gilbert & Doris E. (Clark) Gilbert. Ron is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Angela (Miller) Gilbert. Also carrying on his legacy of empathy and kindness are his two sons, Adam and Jason, of whom he was immensely proud. Perhaps the biggest blessings in his life were his grandsons, Edward and Cordy. Ron will also be missed by his two brothers, Mike and John, his nieces and nephews, a daughter-in-law, Laura, and his precious circle of cousins. A daughter-in-law, Mary Ava Nease, and infant grandson, Holden, preceded him in death. A graduate of Plainfield High School, Ron went on to study at Indiana State University, which is where he met his bride, Angie. His career was centered on compassion and hospitality. His decade of service as a paramedic, and then manager, at Aid Ambulance would turn out to be some of his most rewarding work, culminating in some of his deepest friendships. Ron spent 16 years working for Resort Condominiums International (RCI), which he loved, mostly because he got the opportunity to travel around the world. He circled the globe and forged lasting friendships with people from nearly every continent, providing an endless collection of fascinating stories to share with the rest of us. His next chapter would deepen his Indiana roots even more, working with the Indianapolis Convention and Visitors Association (Visit Indy) giving him the opportunity to share with thousands of visitors all the things he loved about his hometown and the state of Indiana. Ron was a loyal sports fan, especially enjoying the Boilermakers, Colts, and Pacers. He loved listening to music and attending concerts, local festivals, people-watching, and was always on a quest to find “real” persimmon pudding. But Ron’s passion for life was fueled by one thing: FAMILY. His perfect day was spent seated around a packed dinner table with family, sharing stories about the good old days on the family farm, playing a heated hand of euchre, or trying to convert wayward IU fans. The family asks that, in memory of Ron, you spend more time with the ones you love and live each day to its fullest. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home where friends may visit from 11:00 am until the time of services at 1:00 pm. Inurnment will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery.
