Steven L. Manning, age 75, of Plainfield, Indiana, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2026. He was born on September 16, 1950, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late James D. Manning, Jr. and Mary Lou (Ashinger) Manning.
Steve was a devoted member of Plainfield United Methodist Church and was deeply involved in several fraternal organizations. He was a member of Plainfield Masonic Lodge #653, Order of the Eastern Star #414, and the Scottish Rite. He also proudly served as Past Monarch of the Sahara Grotto Fraternal Organization and was the drum major for the Sahara Grotto Drum & Bugle Corps.
In his free time, Steve enjoyed playing his guitar and singing, watching old country western movies, and collecting Lionel train models. He was an avid fan of the Indianapolis 500 and had a lifelong love for animals, cherishing each of the dogs and cats who were part of his life.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, where Masonic services will begin at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery.
Steve is survived by his loving wife, Pat Manning; his daughter, Teri (Clint) Groeschen; his siblings, Kevin (Sherry) Manning, Karen Donaldson, and Bryan Manning; two grandchildren, Patrick (Lucy Blake) Groeschen and Elena (Matthew Lane) Groeschen; as well as several nieces and nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends.
