Steven L. Wendell, PE, 70, Plainfield, passed away peacefully at home on April 24th, 2022 with his wife by his side While he will be greatly missed by those who loved him, we rejoice with him as he received his new heavenly body free of pain and able to stand straight and tall for the first time in 16 years.
He was born March 14th, 1952 in Silver Creek, New York to Dr H. Lester Wendell and Jane C. (Roberts) Wendell. After graduating from Forestville High School in 1970, Steve attended Alfred State College, graduating in 1972 with his Associate's Degree and later earned his Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University in 1976. In 1982, Steve earned his Professional Engineering License in the State of Indiana. Steve spent his career at Duke Energy and retired in 2017, after 45 years of service. He enjoyed volunteering at church, tutoring students with math, and helping local charitable organizations Steve loved sweets-especially Twinkees, Westerns and his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant grandson Matthew P. Lye, and his beloved cat, Zipper.
Steve is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sallie M. (Atkinson) Wendell; his children, Jennifer M. (Jeffrey P.) Lye, David L. (Megan R.) Wendell, Douglas S. (Sarah J.) Wendell; his grandchildren, Danielle M. (Wes E.) Wilson, Samantha T. Marks, Henry M. and William J. Lye, Lily G. and Parker D. Wendell; and a sister Pamela (Jim) Powell; in-laws, Paul W. and M. Ann (Burgdoerfer) Atkinson; several nieces and nephews and many special friends.
Cremation will take place. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of the Hendricks County Animal Shelter, 250 E. Campus Blvd., Danville, IN 46122. Arrangements by Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield.
