Terry McCarter

Terry Steven McCarter, 87, of Greencastle, Indiana, passed away on August 5, 2026. He was born in Patricksburg, Indiana to Floyd and Lois McCarter. Terry spent his life doing what he loved while building friendships that lasted a lifetime. Terry’s love of basketball began in high school, where he was a talented player. He enjoyed watching the game and reminiscing about his days on the court. After graduating high school in 1957, Terry attended Linotype school in English, Indiana. In 1961, at age 22, he opened his print shop in Greencastle. After a brief break to proudly serve in the U.S. Army, he returned to the business and continued operating it until retiring at age 86 in 2025. In 1977, Terry married Pat and together they became partners in both life and business. His print shop became more than a place of business, it was a place where people were welcomed with a smile and an invitation to “come on in and have a seat.” Terry loved visiting with people and was always ready with a joke or funny story. Terry and Pat purchased property in Mansfield, Indiana, and opened Fox’s Overlook gift shop in 1984. They were involved in tourism, Covered Bridge Festivals and published the Parke County Guide. When Terry wasn't at the print shop, he enjoyed nature while keeping up the place he had called home. He loved mowing with his John Deer Tractor, riding his golf cart with his faithful companion, Boomer and spending time outdoors. He faithfully fed the birds and deer and appreciated the simple joys of life. Terry will be remembered for his hard work, integrity, quick wit and genuine kindness. He built more than a successful business, he built relationships and friendships that lasted a lifetime. His office door may have closed, but the friendships he made and memories he leaves behind will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Terry is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Pat; his son, George of Bloomington; his sister, Louise Pence of Greencastle; his sister-in-law, Donna McCarter of Illinois; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Susan and Darrell Tyler of Plainfield; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Gary; his son, Mark; stepson, Randy; stepdaughter, Michelle. There will be no visitation or services.
