Thomas Newlin

Thomas E. Newlin, 91, of Plainfield, passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family members.  He was born in Plainfield, IN on June 14, 1935 to the late Lawrence and Edythe Newlin.  Tom earned his B.A. from Earlham College in 1957 and an M.S. from the University of Wisconsin.  He spent his entire career at Eli Lilly and Company, starting in 1959 as a Physical Chemist in research.  In 1974, he was named director of Personnel for Lilly Research Laboratories, and he retired in 1992 as the Administration Director of Elanco S.A. in Kinsale, Ireland.  Tom served on the Earlham College Board of Trustees for 18 years, including as Vice Chairman for the last nine years.  He was honored with the Outstanding Service to the College Award in 1997.  As a founding member of the Hendricks County Community Foundation, he served as treasurer for 10 years.  Other civic involvement includes Guilford Township Historical Society, PHS Alumni Association, and the Indianapolis Daycare Board.  He organized and has been the leader of Plainfield Oldtimers since 2000.  Tom belonged to the Plainfield Freinds Meeting.  He enjoyed playing golf in his free time.  Tom loved spending time with his family.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Max Newlin; sister, Jane Timian.  A Celebration Of Life will be held at a later date.  Survivors include his loving wife, Nancy Newlin; sons, Mark (Tudy), Jay (Kim), Tim (Debbie) and Steve (Michelle) Newlin; sister, Alice Huus; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren.
